GREG LOIACONO & STINGRAY

Greg Loiacono & Stingray

While Greg Loiacono may be best known as a gritty rock and soul man from his work with The Mother Hips and Chris Robinson, the singer/songwriter has ventured out on his own with a variety of musical projects. His latest group, Stingray, is a dynamic, genre-blending band led by Greg and features some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s finest musicians including Vicki Randle (Mavis Staples, George Benson), Michael Urbano (Lindsey Buckingham, Smash Mouth, John Hiatt), Kofy Brown, and Danny Eisenberg. The band merges elements of soul, rock, R&B, and funk into masterful songwriting, rich improvisation, intricate rhythms, and a deep attention to vocal harmony. The band’s work is characterized by its boundary-pushing approach to both performance and recording, with Loiacono’s dynamic guitar work and songwriting at the forefront. As Stingray continues to evolve, the band has built a loyal following for its innovative, energetic live shows.

PRESS

GLIDE MAGAZINE SAYS: Loiacono’s mighty falsetto is reaching new, chill-inducing heights with this album and tour, recalling Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons with a wilder edge. Part of why we love vintage Aretha Franklin is because she’s pushing her voice into the red, doing it how it needs to get done not how it’s supposed to be done. Loiacono is hitting a similar stride in this era, the full flourishing of a classic pop rock voice on par with Paul Carrack, Emitt Rhodes, and Bread’s David Gates. That Loiacono’s just as good in concert as he is with the reverb and boost of studio production never ceases to amaze.

RELIX MAGAZINE SAYS: The follow-up to Loiacono’s 2020 release Mystic Traces finds the Mother Hips’ co-founder collaborating with a stellar group of musicians that includes Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools on bass, drummer Michael Urbano (Sheryl Crow, John Hiatt) and organ player Danny Eisenberg (Counting Crows, Jonathan Richman). The sessions were recorded at Dave Schools’ Northern California studio, Spacecamp, and produced by Scott Hirsch (Hiss Golden Messenger, William Tyler).
